Paul Dana's Fatal Crash in IRL

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) -- Driver Paul Dana died after a two-car crash Sunday during the warmup for the season-opening IRL IndyCar Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The other driver, Ed Carpenter, was awake and alert at a Miami hospital, IRL officials said.
Dana, 30, a former motorsports journalist with a degree from Northwestern, was a rookie who competed in three IRL races for Ethanol Hemelgarn Racing last year with a best finish of 10th in the race at Homestead.

The more American racing I watch the more I am convinced that it is designed mainly for the purpose of providing a constant stream of fatal accidents. I mean, why else would you let people drive in a circle with no safety measures other than a concrete wall directly (!) at the side of the track at 200 mph and in cars who wouldnt be safe if you drove them at half the speed they do...

The concrete wall and fence is for the protection of the crowd. US racing is definately not as sanatised as European racing, you're right, but it's just a different style of racing. F1 has it's fair share of drivers who have burned to death at the trackside while the racing continued.
