Actually it would be. It takes a hell of a lot to shatter a planet. Especially since much of the Earth is not composed of rigid substances beyond the crust, it can absorb a good bit of force. And a body in space can be traveling at any given sub-light speed, it just depends on how much force acts on it.
They definitely slowed down the impact for the video but the initial approach and the impact and effects were fine.

You are very right. The Bible says a third of the Earth will be wiped out. See Revelation 8 & 9. w3 biblegateway com for free bible to read on the web. The locusts that are described come out of the abyss. Hornets live underground. It could even be something alien or something that happens because of an imbalance in nature. Whatever it is, I'm glad I won't be around for it. Comets move fast. The Bible says the Earth will shake and the seas will toss.

By the way, it's not that farfetched that a comet would hit the Earth. Meteor showers happen a couple of times a year, everytime we cross the path of a comet.
