I'm glad he didn't. ET was a one movie deal. How the fuck would they make a movie anywhere NEAR as good as what this film is. ET is one of the greatest films in all of cinema history. Period.

Only Spielberg could make such a masterpiece. Even after iconic legends he has brought to the screen such as, Marty Mcfly, Indiana Jones and countless others, ET stands out to be a motion picture triumph that tops over everything. Who knew a simple alien could make such a big difference....

If you didn't like this movie, you don't have a fuckin heart! I was lucky enough to see this in the theatre when I was 7 years old. I was blown away then and 26 years later, I still feel the exact same way. HBO aired the original cut this week in glorious HD without the CGI and the walkie-talkies. As it should be. Simply stunning. Ghandi was a good film about a great man but this deserved the Best Picture oscar. The academy got it wrong that year.

I like the significance of him touching elliot where the mystic's say "the third eye" is located, on the forehead. "The Third Eye" is our psychic/spiritual connection. "I'll be right here" takes on even more significance. Look up third eye on the net.

I always get nervous at that roadblock of police... but then, of course, the bikes take off and they escape. Your heart's gotta soar at that part... it's perfect.
And then...one of the most emotional endings (and, I think, the saddest) ever. I don't know which is most heartbreaking: the music, the way Elliott says "Ouch," or the look on his face, especially from 4:42 to 4:50. It's just so sad that his best friend is leaving him.
If I were Elliott, I would have gone with E.T.

This is the only movie I have EVER cried at.
Also Mrs Doubtfire's speech to Katie McCormick at the end of the movie, when Mrs. Doubtfire explains why parents seperate along with the score and Sally's facial expression as she watches.
