Yeah the screwjob happens a few months after this.
It sucks, he wanted to win his last match for WWF in his home country against shawn michaels, so he could leave the company with dignity, and forfeit the belt but Vince goes and screws him over and butchers his character
Pretty sad considering he's been the company so long and never asked for a match but that last one (which in the contract says he can have some creativity over his character) he brought so many fans to the company too.

If this was real, do you think they would have allowed Bret Hart to give what is obviously a promo? I mean this is kayfabe all the way! He speaks of getting a shot at the title as if it were actually a thing that you won via real life competition. I think its pretty obvious that Bret Hart worked with McMahon to pull off one of the best works in wrestling history...one which still has most of us fooled it seems. A favor to WWF before going over to WCW, I think.
