I also like Suspicion and Vertigo but not as much as the ones above ^
North by Northwest? ... ( 3 months ago by idealforcleaning)
North by Northwest? Hitchcock described it as a holiday film. Not a serious effort. Vintage Hitchcock was the best; Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train. I like vintage Orson Welles too; Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Lady From Shanghai, Mr Arkadin/Confidential Report and Touch of Evil. The Trial was also OK.

Sorry I meant "To Catch a Thief". I'm surprised you consider it in his top 5. He considered it the least of his work and described it as a "holiday film".
His technicolor films in the 50's are good but his best work was in black and white. Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious, Strangers on a Train. They're much better.

No matter what it was, I think it was a good film.
I actually disliked Strangers on a Train. I don't know why, I just didn't find it that great. And Notorious I have a large issue with the way the female lead was played. Not the actress, but how she came across. As for the others, I still haven't gotten to watching them.

I like CHEESE!
and Hitchcock. But not both at the same time. That would be a bit weird.
My favourite cheeses are:
Mozzarella,
wensleydale,
mascapone
and
Psycho cheese.
Family cheddar plot was rubbish.
But Strangers on a brie had an insightful twang.

From what I've seen I like: Suspicion, Notorious, and Rear Window the best.
But I don't think that I've ever seen a Hitchcock film that I DIDN'T like at all.

My favourite, so far, is Notorious.
It's sad that only one of his movies won Best Picture, Rebecca. They should ALL win Best Picture! (lol, ok, i'm exagerating but anyway..)

Of course. Why is it that no-one else in the history of film has been able to frighten us and keep us on edge like he has (without copying his methods)? The man knew his stuff, and that's why we'll never see another one like him.
