although it does show just how blatantly ridiculous the monty python crew were being in saying their film had nothing to do with Christ, as they did.
The Life of Brian ... ( 1 month ago by whouster)
The Life of Brian is simply a comedy which centres around a character who is mistaken for the Messiah. Within the first few minutes of the film, the REAL birth of Christ is depicted. From that point of view, the Python team were justified in their statement. It is not an attack on Christianity - just a very funny satire on how society craves a diety. I respect Christians and christianity, but the reaction of the fundamentalists against this film shows a lack of understanding I believe.

I don't think it does show a lack of understanding...perhaps a lack of tolerance for humour. But the Monty Python character in this satire and the 'fundy' Christians were both right - any 'life of Brian' or 'life of Christ' film is very clearly a parody of Jesus and John Cleese, respectively.

I'm a christian and life of brian is one of my favourite films i think its brilliant and this sketch is hilarious also. The more shall we say fundamental christians need to get a sense of humor and some perspective. its like when somechristian groups near me held protests because jerry springer the operah was being staged where they lived. It was just a fanciful play it wasn't going to stop people going to church or anything

It's a parody of ... ( 2 weeks ago by vicavox)
It's a parody of the religious backlash that greeted the release of "Life Of Brian" as many nonsensical evangelicals lambasted the film because they themselves had no sense of humour. At the start of the sketch they state that Python is revered and worshipped throughout and obviously they all were influenced by it. The line about "dying frequently" merely pertains to that not all the sketches in 'Flying Circus' got the laughs they deserved because they were so off the wall and so surreal.

Superb. A quite brilliant response to Malcolm Muggeridge and his cohorts who lambasted Python's "Life of Brian", then went onto admit they had never actually watched the film.
