Steve Gadd Linear 32nd's
Uploaded by: Dcdrmwthme
Video Description:
Heres the famous drum lick from "Chuck E's in Love". I know this lick never dies, so I wanted to post it for all who may not know how to play it.
Its linear in fashion, and the sticking is FLLRRLLF RLLRRLLF, with the right hand coming over to the snare for 2 & 4. These notes are played as 32nd notes, against a moderately slow beat.
As usual, my video camera is lousy and wont pick up any subtle playing, but in reality the lick is played with softer grace notes than Im playing here, and a little bit slower.
I start the video off playing it REAL slow, so you can hopefully grasp how the sticking falls, then I bring it up to a workable speed.
Enjoy!

I'm mainly progressive metal/rock
but i love applying doubles/paradiddles/stevegadd like licks into my playing, which makes it sound very groovy and tasteful, instead of just romping out on double bass, to create "my style" of drumming
thx
