Falcon Crest was among the "big" soaps of the 80s along with Dallas, Dyanasty and Knots Landing, but on British TV was unfortunately given "poor relation" status by being dropped from a prime time Thursday evening slot to a lunchtime showing. With a fantastic writing and production team, Falcon Crest reached the peak of its well deserved success between seasons 3-5, but lost its way when Creator and Executive Producer Earl Hamner bowed out of hands-on control sometime around season 6.

The winery used to depict the fictional Falcon Crest is situated in the California wine-producing region of the Napa Valley, north of San Francisco and is called Spring Mountain. Filming would take place there for several weeks during the summer when exteriors for the first block of 12 or so episodes of a season would be shot. Exteriors for later episodes were done on the standing sets at Studio City near Los Angeles where St Elsewhere, among other shows were also filmed.

I prefer the soaps of the 80's & early 90's at least the storyline & the look of the whole show makes you want to watch more, compare to todays high definition garbage I would rather watch reruns on the good ol Youtube..

This theme tune takes me straight back to the 1980s. Falcon Crest was one of my favourite American soaps of that decade not just because of the fabulous theme tune but the lovely tongue-in-cheek humour that sometimes came out in the dialogue.
