With all the safety features Nascar has put in place I say LET them Boys race!!! The restrictor plate makes for boring racing next to each other every fucking lap.. I was a Nascar fan until they implemented this BS plate.. Let them Race Winston!!

Everybody pay attention to how close the flag stand came to being destroyed. That flagman would have had no chance if Allison;s car had hit a few feet further down the fence. I say now that safety has caught up to racing- take off the restrictor plates and let them go 200 mph again!

Kinda funny how this wreck happened. The car in front of allison actually lost the harmonic balancer off the front of the crank...it was an illegal light weight one, which caused it to give way. NASCAR could not prove this because they couldn't ever find it, it probably blew into a million pieces. Also the reason that they will never EVER let the cars go that fast again is for insurance...

228 was for the entire lap.. average speed. he did reach 241 on the back straitaway according to alabama state patrol radar.. bill elliott did the about the same in 1987 setting a world record that still stands today.

But the car could still go up and over the fence. Back then, cars went 210-220 MPH, whereas nowadays they could most likely surpass 240 MPH, and safetywise, that is just too dangerous to go that fast. Not only for the fans, but the drivers as well.

thats what i remember off an interview... and he didnt even have the car setup for that speed. could you imagine if they had a couple days testing to get the car setup for that speed?.. again this is all if i remember right.

When you're in the driver's seat, you really don't think about how fast you're going, and it certainly doesn't look like you're going that fast (and they don't have speedometers in the cars).
