Some people are happier with blinders on. If they don't look at it, maybe they won't have to face their feelings about it, or live with other peoples opinions and stand up to them.
How sad for kids who have parents that aren't brave enough to back them up. Perhaps they think it's a negative reflection on them as a parent. Not true, but then they have fear so they won't look at it.

Thanks for your realistic and articulate opinion on this subject Holly. Yes, for many it is a huge psychological battle,which is a result of societal influences from the time a child is able to understand what lines they can and can't cross to the present day life as an adult.

...also judging from your opinions on the matter you have also had great pressure from the negatives of society...which I was sorry to hear about. As far as parents are concerned I feel that they are scared of both the ridicule that their immediate neighbours, school etc will place on them as parents and on the ridicule that the child will also receive. This has to be understood. Although it is not fair on the child to do this it puts the parents in between "a rock and hard place". Stay Strong!
