It's simple: When a good person dies, you highlight his accomplishments and mourn his loss. When a bad person dies, you cheer, and remind people of why it's good that this worthless gasbag is finally dead.

yeah i see what youre sayin, nightflyer, but i do think it's a little much to bash him as soon as he died on a television show. i can see someone sayin' it to a friend right after, and i can see it on a tv show much later, but right after seems harsh.

As far as I'm concerned, a few minutes of ultra-derision on a few comedy shows are the _least_ Falwell deserved.

It would be speaking ill of the ill for the first year and a half, but since once HIV degenerates into AIDS the average life span is 18 months and the maximum is 3 years, it becomes ill of the dead pretty quick.
The 9/11 thing I believe is less ill of the dead and more disrespect for them since he's taking a massive tragedy and trying to twist it to support his hatred.

Definitely disrespectful, but Christian doctrine DOES state (and it's hard to disagree) that all bad things that happen in life are the result of yours or someone else's sins... All of them, not just the controversial ones.
As for AIDS, technically (outside of unscreened blood tests) it's impossible to get without non-Jesus-approved sex, since if you're both virgins there's just no way.. But the real people to blame are the ones screwing green monkeys.

There are bad things that have nothing to do with sin, like earthquakes and birth defects. also, you can get HIV from drug use, and since the bible doesn't actually say anything about drug use, just the religious right, and you can be a virgin sleeping with a virgin who's shot up it's still possible, also, many people who die of AIDS in africa are born with it.
