Everything in life is transaction. The dude shelled out the bucks for untold/implicit expectation of sex or dates. So pretty much it was a good faith transaction but the girl did not keep her end of the bargain.
So much for the reward part, now for the risk part, 1 in 10 (roughly, per Stanford study :) guy is a psycho and will punch her or more, if he doesn't get his end of the bargain. So not worth the risk for a $80 shoe.
