Kim Pearson rocks! I am lucky that I have a mom and dad that are as understanding of my own transsexuality.
The school is also great. I think they are doing brilliantly.

You go girl! Someday children like my daughter will not have to be pulled out of school to be homeschooled because they cannot safely be themselves in the public schools. Kim, You are the bomb!!!
A well done piece. ... ( 9 months ago by filibusterer)
A well done piece. I wish the subtitle on the segement hadn't read "BOY will go to school," since that's just the sort of sensationalist, reactionary headlining that puts out the wrong message - but still, any coverage on primetime is good coverage.

Wonderful information! Kim, you're the best. Up to 1/250 births experience gender discrepency...count the kids in any school and do the math... many stand to gain from your words.
Parents: Please know that kids are VERY accepting when this is presented. They fold it into what they know about classmates and move on. If the parents don't freak out the kids don't!
We don't allow "blame" or harrassment for any other medical condition; this IS a medical condition. Education and support are key.

Thanks havasumoma. I was so terrified of telling them, but they were both fine with it - my dad of course getting all practical about therapy and job situation and stuff ;), but they both accepted it.
The rest of the family has not been going so well, but I suppose most of my relatives I only see now and again anyway, and while I would like for them to accept me, the most important people already have.

I am the parent of a transgender child. He transitioned at age 7, and six years later...has never waivered. Kim did a marvelous job! The school is doing what is right for this little girl. The children will be just fine. My son goes to school and uses the boys bathroom...no one has ever had a problem. Just let them be who they were meant to be!! Thanks for educating the public!

Kudos to Kim and TYFA for their continued efforts in advocating for our transgendered children. Another wonderful television segment aired during prime time. The word is out. Our children should be safe and happy in their schools.

I wish I had a mom like you...I'm 23 and have been struggling with this for years and years. I just came out as trans for the second time..the first was when I was 19 and was threatened by my family..so I tried to live as a lesbian..and I just came back out again as trans. It's not going to go away..and I wish I had a mother like you..who would support me..and just try to understand, at least..and love me for who I TRULY am. Kudos to you for supporting him. :)

I think this is awesome . That this child can go to school and be who she truely is. I think everyone should be able to be happy and be accepted for who they are as long as there not hurting anyone . As far as Hormones go .I think the child should probally wait until she is a teen to decide on that . Thing should be taken in steps and this is a great first step in that direction for this child. I feel people are becomeing more and more acceptable with transgender people which is a good thing.
Why unisex ... ( 9 months ago by JesseLH88)
Why unisex bathrooms? I don't understand.
If this child is considered a girl, then she should use the girl's bathroom like the rest.
Also, that Dave M. guy is an ass.

As a transsexual that was the first in my school, I will tell you the unisex bathroom is mostly in safety for the student, and to relieve safety issues from the girls parents.

I agree, but the society is 'afraid' and wants to be politically correct.
